A “never before seen story” set in Middle-earth. That is how The Lord of the Rings show has been described. Amazon’s currently working on building this film-to-show adaption and the project now has a director.
J.A Bayona, the director behind Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will take on the responsibility of bringing Middle-earth to the small screen.
According to Deadline, Bayona will direct the first two episodes of the series and will act as executive producer along with Belen Atienza.
Amazon announced The Lord of the Rings show back in 2017 for a multiple-season run and last year JD Payne an Patrick McKay jumped on board to write and develop the show. According to rumours, Amazon has been in contact with Peter Jackson about keeping the series consistent with the first two acclaimed trilogies.
We know The Lord of the Rings show will be set before the events of J.R.R Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It will touch on the rise of Sauron and the creation of the Rings of Power thousands of years before The Hobbit. According to Amazon, the show will debut the Kingdom of Numenor, Tolkien’s take on Atlantis.
The Lord of the Rings Show is sounding better and better and with a director at the helm, we could most likely expect production to ramp up and more details to be revealed soon.
