Team Liquid Loses Entire Dota 2 Roster

Team Liquid Dota 2 KuroKy DPC season

While the Dota 2 post-TI shuffle has seen some big moves so far, including Pasha moving to Na’Vi, Moon joining Fnatic and much more, one of the most surprising changes so far is that the entire Team Liquid squad has left the organization. The decision to leave Team Liquid seems to have come shortly after TI when KuroKy talked about his plans of going independent to the organization owner for the upcoming DPC season.

First up, it is unclear if the squad will stay exactly the same going into the upcoming DPC season but it would be surprising if they made changes to their roster under a new team name since they came second during TI9. Further, the Team Liquid organization plans to remain in the Dota 2 scene, so we will see them picking up some new players in the future. The Team Liquid Dota 2 squad consisted of:

  • Aliwi “w33” Omar
  • Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi
  • Ivan “MindControl” Ivanov
  • Maroun “GH” Merhej
  • Kuro Salhi “Kuroky-” Takhasomi

Team Liquid owner, Victor “Nazgul” Goossens, spoke about the departure of the team in a recent post, stating that:

When Kuroky told me about their plans in the wake of TI9, I couldn’t help but think about my own journey from professional player to team owner. After four years under the Team Liquid organization, our Dota team has decided to pursue this new dream: To build a team of their own. While it fills me with great sadness to part ways with the best Dota roster we ever could have dreamed of, I am proud of the unforgettable years we have spent together, which include innumerable championships, records, and memories. That culminated in their crowning as the best Dota team in the world on August 12th 2017, and we built a legend in this historic 2.5-year span.

While parting with friends is always a sadness, I am genuinely happy our players and the new adventure they are about to take. It isn’t every day that world-class players take the leap to become team owners. They deserve this more than anyone, and I am glad that we were able to share the road to greatness together. It is my hope that during their time on Team Liquid, we have helped prepare them for the path they are embarking on.

Goosens further wished KuroKy and his team the best of luck going forward and that they are on the lookout for individuals or teams who can continue the winning legacy. Hopefully, they get Matu back.
