It’s been just over five years since we last had the chance to jump into the boots of Sam Fisher in a Splinter Cell game. The franchise has been dormant all while Ubisoft pushes out Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed games. This might all change as many are hopeful that an Easter Egg in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey could hint at a new Splinter Cell game.
Please note: Although this isn’t a massive Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey Spoiler and just an Easter Egg found in the game, if you want to go into your odyssey completely blind, you should probably turn back now.

A new Splinter Cell?
In the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell universe, the Third Echelon is the organization responsible for the Splinter Cell programme, while series protagonist Sam Fisher is a spymaster working for the Fourth Echelon (in the last game, Blacklist). Fans of the series will also remember Sam’s awesome combo-goggles.
All this brings me to what players have found in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. Armed with the short refresher course above, the image below (thanks to jezette on Twitter) should make a lot of sense.
This might be a hint at a new Splinter Cell, and it suggests that the franchise takes place in the same universe as Assassin’s Creed. The Ubisoft franchises do seem to share the same universe and if you can remember, there was also an event in Ghost Recon Wildlands.
Speaking to GameInformer, Ubisoft’s Creative Head, Serge Hascoet, talked about the dormant franchises, namely Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia, stating that:
I love Splinter Cell. I love Prince of Persia. I can’t disclose any information at this time, but I can say we are fighting for resources. It’s not a question of will, it’s a question of means.
Although Mr Hascoet couldn’t share any information, I, for one, think his comment is promising. At the very least, he didn’t rule anything out and hopefully, we will see Ubisoft creating a new game in both these franchises soon. It goes without saying that there is a tonne of gamers who want a new game from either of these franchises.
