Sony Files Trademarks for PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9, and PS10

PS5 Backward Compatibility

Expect the PlayStation brand to be around for a long, long time. According to a newly filed trademark by Sony, they plan on releasing at least ten consoles in the PlayStation family, for now. Sony filed the trademarks for the PS6 through to the PlayStation 10 just in case someone thought they would grab the trademarks before Sony got to them. Even though Sony is only working on the PS5 at the moment, this was done just for safety reason.

The trademarks don’t reveal much other than them being listed under “business for the TV game machine program” and details the devices as “downloads for possible commercial video game machine”. The trademarks are likely just to secure the name for the devices should Sony ever get to a tenth console. Safer to protect your assets and future business plans else you will end up with a Fallout 76 situation where someone grabbed the FalloutFirst domain and created a parody of the new subscription service.

We know Sony is working on the PS5 at the moment set to release in Holiday 2020 but as for the other consoles, they will be arriving in the very, very distant future. If we have to put it into perspective, Sony releases a new PlayStation console every seven to eight years so the PS10 will be out in 2050. We can only dream what technology will be like in that day and age.

As for the PS5, Sony trademarked the console way back in 2006 so it has been safe for a couple of years now.

Be sure to catch up on our PS5 news including the new DualShock 5 controller, the possible PlayStation 5 release date and much more.
