MDL Chengdu Major – Virtus.Pro Bombs Out in The Qualifiers

MDL Chengdu Major qualifiers Virtus.Pro Dota 2 Dota Pro Circuit

The new Dota Pro Circuit season kicked off over the weekend with qualifiers for the MDL Chengdu Major and with it, there has been one massive upset already. In the CIS regional qualifiers for the first Major of the Dota Pro Circuit 2019/2020 season, the powerful organization Virtus.Pro has been eliminated.

Virtus.Pro made some massive changes to their Dota 2 roster with only Solo and No[o]ne remaining from their Major-winning squad. With the addition of Roman “Resolut1on” Fominok, Vitalie “Save-” Melnic and Egor “epileptick1d” Grigorenko to the roster, the team looked great on paper, but it didn’t pay off during the MDL Chengdu Major qualifiers.

In the MDL Chengdu Major CIS regional qualifiers, the top two teams from a group go through to the playoff bracket. Virtus.Pro even managed to get a free win because one of their opponents had to withdraw from the tournament. With only six actual organizations competing in the CIS qualifiers, with the others being stacks created for the tournament, no one (sorry) would have thought Virtus.Pro would not make it through.

Well, Virtus.Pro didn’t even make it out of the group stage, as the team drew 1-1 against Old But Gold and Viet Flashbacks, then lost 2-0 against Hellraisers. This meant that they ended third in their group and was thereby eliminated from the MDL Chengdu Major CIS regional qualifiers.

That’s a terrible start to the Dota Pro Circuit season from the organization but they did have a few moments of brilliance. Maybe it is because the team didn’t have enough time before the Major qualifiers kicked off. For the Na’Vi fans out there, they also didn’t make it through the group stage of the qualifiers, ending in fourth place in group B.
