Earlier this year, Valve announced that it is working on three games including a flagship title for its VR headset, the Valve Index that is expected to release before the end of this year. Now, a rumour suggests that the flagship title is indeed a new Half-Life game but unfortunately for anyone without a VR headset, it could be Half-Life VR.
As always, keep in mind that this is only a rumour at this point and that you should take it with a grain of salt. With that out of the way, Tyler McVicker from the YouTube channel Valve News Network (which has been a source of leaks and information about everything Valve and Steam for years) is reporting that they have found evidence of Half-Life VR with mentions of “HLVR” in code.
The code, which you can view here, references HLVR over and over again, referencing everything from weapons to items, enemies, interactions and more. This code was found in Valve’s games and tools that have been publically released. Tyler McVicker doesn’t stop there, however, as there’s some speculation of what the Half-Life VR game could be about as well.
According to Valve News Network’s research, the game will be set in the 20-year period between the original and Half-Life 2 and players will step into the boots of Alex Vance. The report further suggests that it will be a single-player, story-driven experience with 12-16 hours of gameplay.
Again, this is just a rumour at this point but looking at the code, it does seem plausible. There is only two and a half months left in 2019 so hopefully we will hear something concrete from Valve soon.
