There was a sequel to the original Doom and Doom 2 that was never released on PC. Doom 64 is the one and only gaming in the famous FPS franchise that was never available on PC, releasing all the way back in 1997 exclusively on the Nintendo 64. Doom 64 ran on the Doom Engine but it wasn’t created by id Software. Instead, it was developed by Midway Games which explains why it never made its way to PC or any other platform.
QuakeCon 2019 finished up this weekend and as we all know by now, it is the “Year of Doom” as Bethesda and id Software is celebrating 25 years of their famous FPS franchise. During QuakeCon 2019, no mention of Doom 64 was made, but Bethesda did release the original Doom (1993), Doom 2 and Doom 3 on all current-gen consoles, as well as mobile devices for the first two games.
One has to wonder where Doom 64 fits into all of this, as it was a completely new game even boasting new demons, maps and everything else. It is the one Doom game that many gamers out there never had the chance to play and now, it looks like this lost piece of Doom history might finally make its way to PC and consoles.
According to PEGI, the European age ratings board, Doom 64 could release on PC and consoles. This review rating has been taken offline since it appeared, but Gematsu managed to capture a screenshot of the rating as you can see below.
PEGI has rated DOOM 64 for PS4 and PC. This was in addition to ratings of DOOM (1993) and DOOM II (Classic). There’s no DOOM 3 rating. pic.twitter.com/5CtEBtV61X

This is obviously not confirmation of a Doom 64 release on PC and PS4, or that it would only come to those two platforms when and if it does release. However, this does give Doom fans some hope at least after two decades.
Would you be interrested in playing Doom 64 on PC or a current-gen console? Let us know in the comment section below.
