Diablo 4 is the only thing the internet cares about right now. After the reveal at BlizzCon 2019 on Friday night, and the information blowout that included new gameplay details, how dungeons will work and much more, we thought we had heard it all. We were wrong. It seems Diablo 4 will be unplayable offline when it releases in the future.
During a Diablo 4 panel discussion, Blizzard revealed that the upcoming action RPG will not support an offline mode. This comes as no surprise as Diablo 3 had the same issue on PC. The next instalment features a “shared open world” with other players exploring the game’s assets with you so, in order to play the game, you will have to be connected to a server.
How this will work is still unclear. We know the game will include a range of social hubs which means you will see other players running around them while you are selling your gear and whatnot. However, it is not clear yet whether or not other players will appear in the open world with you too.
Blizzard did share information on the world events that take place across the map stating they will be quite tough to complete alone but you can recruit other players to help you. This all sort of sounds like Destiny’s world with public events being a team effort of those around the area.
We also don’t know if this “online-only” feature is for the PC version only. The console version of Diablo 3 was playable offline that could be changing in the next instalment. Blizzard did share information that Diablo 4 will feature a local two-player couch co-op mode so you and a friend can play together on the same console. It will also have the same online modes as the PC version including co-op PvE and PvP.
Guess we just have to wait and see what this all means as Blizzard shares more information on the game in the months ahead.
